Lake Minneola High School’s advanced mixed choir, SoLa Voce, has been selected to perform in Walt Disney World’s Candlelight Processional at EPCOT on Christmas Day.
The choir, made up primarily of students in grades 10-12 with a few freshman participating as substitutes, will perform at 5 p.m. on Ghursday, December 25, as part of this nationally recognized holiday tradition. Participation in the Candlelight Processional is determined through a highly selective audition process and features only a limited number of outstanding choirs from across the country, making this a significant honor for the students and the school.
“This tradition is something so many families look forward to each year, and for our singers to help tell the Christmas story on Christmas Day makes the experience especially meaningful,” said Ian Tapson, director of choirs at the school.
The annual event is a popular part of EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays, with performances nightly during the holiday season. It features a celebrity narrator reading the Christmas story from the Bible, accompanied by a large orchestra and a mass choir including Disney cast members and high school students. They sing carols and create a festive retelling of the nativity story at the America Gardens Theatre. The celebrity narrator who will read during Lake Minneola’s performance is Joel David Smallbone of the Christian pop duo, For King & Country.
“This is a moment of pride for our choir, our school, and our entire community,” Tapson said, “and one that the students will carry with them for a lifetime.”
